First a word of caution! This is a high frequency, high voltage device. Please keep this away from all electronic equipment (Pace makers for sure!). I have even been shocked messing with capacitors and had my USB keyboard go out because it was close to the running coil. Yah that’s from a 3V input power source! So please be careful.
I have recently been researching full DIY Tesla Coils that use low input voltages. Growing up I had a few kits as a kid but never had the chance to build one from scratch.
I can across Jay’s video over at the Plasma Channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbV1zyg_4qU&t=513s and was blown away by this incredible design. Be sure to check out Jay’s other great videos which are loaded with awesome information, and are so much fun to watch. Jay’s build on this project was very specific so best to follow his plans.
Being a maker I saw an opportunity to save myself some time and create a new version that could be 3D printed. Not having to cut acrylic sheets, measure, drill holes, sand, and glue was a big time saver and made the design a joy to put together.
I was also able to add a cap to press in the topiode (Cabinet Door Knob) and a WindingTop tool that fits in a 3/8" drill for easier winding of the secondary coil tube. Uses 6-32 screws and nuts.
Oh the lightbulb was purchased at the Local Dollar Tree. Not a true plasma globe but looks cool in the dark. Really fun project with a beautifully finished coil. So happy to share this one with you guys.
