This is the next generation of the low cost teaching microscope designed to be built and used by students to learn microscopy. Depending on your choice of lenses, this can cost between $0.40 and $3.50 per microscope.
Improvements include:
3D printed holder for lenses - This makes it easier for students to install them and keep their fingers off of them. I borrowed this idea from the good folks at Legoscope (http://designscience.ucsf.edu/lego/home.html)
Snap-together design - No glue. This version slides together into place.
Fewer pieces - We've reduced the number of pieces and it doesn't require a dowel anymore.
This version can still use disposable camera lenses but I purchased some higher quality lenses in bulk when I implemented for classroom use. (See instructions for more details)
