Tangram 3D
Tangrams provide rich opportunities for children to play with shapes and many other mathematical ideas. With traditional tangrams, the thickness of the pieces is simply ignored, although it does exist. In a playful tweak, I chose to extrude the tangrams so that the square piece becomes a cube, thus allowing possible 3D manipulations and discussions such as faces, vertices, edges, surface areas, and volumes. The downside is the printing time and the amount of filaments required for the 3D stretch. But they can be printed at a low infill rate or shelled. The present design is based on a 100-mm square. The height is 25 * Sqrt(2) mm, which is also the width of the small square (now the cube) piece.
