V2 Info:
I made a smaller and simpler mount of just two brick-like rails with holes for connector pegs. This is much easier to print and use. The holes are to lego specs, and the two bricks should be separated by a 7-block distance (56mm) when pressed into place.
This model has hidden elements. Credits due to: Josh B's "Tamiya Twin Gearbox 70168" model; Wolfheart's "Lego 3701" and "Lego 3703"; and an unknown author of a 2x4 plate.
Printed in PLA, 20% infill and thick walls, no supports. 0.200 is sufficient. I had to drill out the holes on my print, because my printer performs poorly with circles.
V1 Info:
This is a Lego-compatible mount to hold a Tamiya 70168 Double Gearbox (https://www.pololu.com/product/114). This is NOT for the twin gearbox that comes up in most searches.
Assembly: This is a snap-fit mount. The gearbox will slide in with little resistance. You will need to apply some grunt to snap it into its final position. You can inspect the fit by looking down through the screw holes in the tabs; they align with the gearbox's mounting tabs.
Notes:
1) The holes in the side tabs are slightly larger than Lego specs, due to my printer's poor backlash.
2) There are hidden models in the SKP file. The STL file contains only the mount.
3) Yes, I know it's sketchup, but I was able to find pretty accurate Tamiya models on 3dwarehouse.
4) I printed in PLA. I don't know how well ABS will work.
