This memorial is situated on the lane at Chapel St. and Mary St. junction. The name “Tae Lane” probably derives from the “Beef Tea (Tae)”- a watery soup – that was distributed to the poor and destitute of the area from a kitchen on this street during the Great Famine of the 1840’s. Commemorations on this wall are done by name, birthplace, dates of birth/death and place of internment. Further details where known are kept in the local library. This memorial, through naming only some, commemorates all of those who left and are interred elsewhere. Erected by Durrow Development Forum. This memorial was unveiled by Daniel Day-Lewis on St. Patrick’s Day 2007. #Tae_Lane_Emigration_Memorial
