This tactile version of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? was designed by high school senior Jacqueline Edwards at the Mountain Lakes Public Library Makerspace. The original book was 3d printed at the Mountain Lakes Public Library Makerspace.
Additionally, we added QR scans on the back of each page with an audio file of that page being spoken. QR codes were generated with FlowCode https://www.flowcode.com.
The original tactile book was printed with white PLA filament and painted with Acrylic paints.
Thank you Sound Start Babies educators Kayley Mayer and Alana D’Alessandro for collaborating with Jacqueline and me on this project. Thank you to the Mountain Lakes Public Library for supporting the Makerspace.
Please comment with any feedback and future ideas for new tactile Brown Bear pages or additional books children would like tactile versions.
These prints were adapted for kids ages 2 - 5 to enjoy. Every effort was made to reduce sharp edges. Before sharing with a child please check each print as you may need to use a nail file to slightly sand down a piece. You can also use a scissor to cut a piece that may be hanging and too sharp.
Final Prints: For improved details, you can print better than .2mm resolution. Additionally, the scales on the fish body and feathers on the bird's body may print as more of texture and not necessarily as it looks on the image. The texture does give a good representation of scales or feathers. The rest of the scales and bird's feather prints very well at .20mm resolution.
