STL to NURBS - Reverse Engineer Scan Data

I received a request out of the blue to convert an STL of scan data into a clean IGES file for manufacturing.

Attached are some images of the process. If there is enough interest, maybe a tutorial of sorts can be produced. Let me know.

1. Inspect/repair scan data.
2. A NURBS surface can be wrapped around scan data, but the topology is not usually what anyone wants or expects.
3. Manually recreate the model in SolidWorks.
4. Compare the solid model to the original scan data with a deviation analysis. The green areas are within .010" or about .25mm of the scan.
5. Render the model to make it look better.

Sadly, I have not heard back from the client after proposing my bill for the service.
I'd normally upload SolidWorks and Step models, but this one I am only uploading as the "ugly wrapped NURBS" as it is unpaid.

Import the file and make a model of it in your favorite software. I found it to be an interesting challenge.

The model is some type of handle which looks to mount on a door.
