Dress up your X-wing miniatures game with 3 dimensional asteroids. The files included are the stands needed to mount your custom asteroids. There are two different styles of stands: The first set is a close approximation of the six different asteroid pieces that come with the game (suitable when playing with rules lawyers). The second set consists of large, medium, small, and tiny sized circular bases.
Once you print out the bases you'll need some asteroids. You don't want to 3-D print your asteroids, instead use lava rocks commonly available for landscaping. I picked mine up off the ground at a mini-golf course and a Home Depot parking lot. Lava rocks are lighter than 'normal' rocks so the stands won't tip over easily and you can drill holes in them without too much trouble. Finally, every rock is unique so the tabletop will look more realistic.
Paint the rocks with the cheapest black spray paint you can find and then drybrush them in progressively lighter shades of color. I used dark gray -> light gray - > white for some of the rocks and brown -> tan -> bone white on the rest of them. They look great with minimal effort.
Drill an 1/8" diameter hole in the rock and push it onto the stand. You can also snap off a random length of each post so the rocks will be floating at different heights.
Happy gaming.
