The U.S.S. Altamar is a Vivace refit class starship. After the U.S.S. Voyager's trip through the Delta Quadrant, the Intrepid class proved it capabilities. The Vivace class was designed upon that success. The Vivace class was also a resounding success as a long range exploratory vessel. When Starfleet started installing quantum slipstream drive in starships, the Vivace class was again put to the test. The U.S.S. Oceana was fitted with a quantum slipstream deflector. It experienced problems maintaining stable slipstream flight. It was discovered that the hull geometry was the problem. SCE redesigned the hull to correct the phase variance, and the Vivace refit was put into service. The refit of current Vivace class ships weakened the super-structure. The U.S.S. Altamar was the first ship to be built from scratch with the refit added into its design upon construction. The Altamar had a greatly improved ability to pass through deeper subspace domains to travel at faster slipstream velocities. (This model is in 3 pieces because of the file's size. Directly load the secondary hull and nacelle files into the saucer model and match up the squares in front of the ship. It will align all sections to make a complete vessel.)
