The filament sensor in the Prusa i3 MK3S printer uses a clever design that relies on a little flappy part that interrupts an infrared beam. Unfortunately, many users have had problems with the sensor because the parts clearances are too tight. This can result in the little flappy part getting stuck.
This incredibly complicated thing is an 8mm diameter insulated washer, which is used to raise up the little circuit board for the filament sensor, thus increasing the part clearance and fixing the problem.
