Our building: Here, students experience a two-day live-in programme in which they wear historical costume and follow the 1850's curriculum. Visitors enjoy watching 19th century-style lessons presented by costumed teachers from the Victorian Department of Education. Historical Notes: The ‘’official’’ denomination of Australia, in the early gold rush days, was the Church of England. This was the religion of the Mother Country, England, and favoured by the majority of Colonial residents. Erected on Yuille Swamp Reserve and sited near the corner of Mair and Pleasant Street, in Ballarat, the school was built in 1861 for £200 (pounds). Though a humble weatherboard construction, it was designed by H. R. Caselli, who later designed the Ballarat Town Hall, the Ballarat City Fire Brigade, and several Ballarat and district churches. While the building was erected as a schoolhouse, it was also used as a church. In 1864, the Denominational and National School Boards where abolished and St. Peter’s school became the Pleasant Street Common School No.695. N.B. Visitors are welcome to watch children at their lessons. This 3D model 2009-2010 3dskyline #1850s #3dskyline #Australia #Ballarat #gold_rush #museum #SH67 #Sovereign_Hill #Tom_Delany #Victoria
