South African Airways was founded on the 1st of February 1934 and is based at Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport with Cape Town International Airport as focus city. South African Airways joined Star Alliance on the 10th of April 2006 and became the first African airline to join Star Alliance ever. South African Airways is the flag carrier and largest airline of South Africa. They currently operate 9 Airbus A340-642s.
