This is a Soap Box Derby racer, constructed and driven by Lloyd E. Horstman, 15, who won the 1947 local Championship in St. Louis, MO, qualifying him to attend the World Championship in Akron, Ohio a month later. He won the year prior in the class A division. Lloyd ran in heat 39 in Akron, unable to advance after being bested in a tight race against Akron's Eugene 'Red' Miller, who won 2nd overall that day. Lloyd's car featured a long windscreen that ran more than half the length of the car. Comparing before and after photos show it cut back for race day, probably to comply with safety regs after being inspected. This model shows the car with the original windscreen. The body of the car followed a teardrop plan with stressed plywood skin over structural bulkheads. This model is created from historic photos showing the car from various angles. Interior details like steering are a guess as I had no photos to work from. The model has livery of how the car looked when it raced in Akron.
