A Soap Box Derby racer designed, built and piloted by Clarence Dale Pippett, who in 1963 won the local championship in Sioux City, IA and went on to race in the All-American Nationals in Akron, OH later that summer. Clarence is part of a Derby racing dynasty in Sioux City. His father Lloyd won the Championship there in 1939, his brother Denny in 1958, he in '63, and his own son Nathan in 1989. All had the honor to represent their hometown in each of their respective years at the All-American in Akron. Painted midnight black in a high-gloss finish, Clarence's racer comprised a curvilinear, high fore and aft body design over a sharpened teardrop plan. Wheelbase of the car was long. The steering wheel was a narrow, upright design. Mr. Pippett was kind enough to help me with my research, providing me with information on his family's race achievements, as well as additional photos that aided in the construction of this model. I wish to express my sincerest thanks to him.
