This is a Soap Box Derby racer designed, constructed and driven to victory in 1966 by Stephen Thomas Brown in Hingham, MA. The teardrop-shaped body was a wood-laminate monocoque over a long wheelbase that ended in a sharp taper. It was built for a situp and lean forward driver, and had a low profile with flat foredeck and rounded rear. This car is an excellent example of the ultimate evolution of lean forward designs common in the mid to late sixties before being superseded by faster laydown designs still in use at Derby events today. Steve made it to the third round at the All-American World Championship a month later, winning his first two heats. This model is created from photographs showing views of the car from multiple angles. Details like brakes were not installed as I had no information on them. The car is equipped with the official All-American Soap Box Derby Championship wheels, painted gold for 1966, with livery showing the driver's name, hometown and car number.
