Remix of the chassis for tristomietitoredeituit's awesome SMARS modular robot (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2662828).
Redesigned from scratch in openSCAD to permit addition of 2xAA battery holder in the base. Axles designed to suit Pro tracks (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3807011). Includes an insert to hold the N20 motors in place and provide a guide for the motor wires.
Chassis is slightly wider than the original to fit the longer AA batteries. Consequently the guide rails for the Arduino Uno have been redesigned as well.
OpenSCAD files included to permit customization if you wish. The AA battery holder (openSCAD file included) is just a copy of my AA battery holder design: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3884172
If you like this remix then please consider donating to tristomietitoredeituit to support their efforts in producing a superb open STEM robotics platform.
In case you are wondering why I designed this to host two AA batteries, it's so the robot can be powered by two 14500 Lithium rechargeable batteries (total 7.4V+). Works really well!
Here's a bill of materials for those who wish to re-create my 'bot.
Printed parts:
1x SMARS base remix
2x SMARS motor blocks
2x ProTracks (see https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3807011 for BOM)
1x Ultransonic sensor housing for original SMARS (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2662828)
Electrical/Other parts:
2x N20 micro gearmotors (e.g. https://www.altronics.com.au/p/j0054-micro-m20-geared-motor-150:1-50-200rpm/)
1x battery spring contacts kit (e.g. https://www.altronics.com.au/p/h0355-ritec-2xaa-battery-spring-contacts-to-suit-h0351-h0352/)
1x Arduino UNO board (e.g. https://www.jaycar.com.au/duinotech-uno-r3-development-board/p/XC4410)
1x dual motor shield (e.g. https://www.jaycar.com.au/h-bridge-motor-driver-shield-for-arduino/p/XC4264)
1x sensor expansion shield (possibly optional e.g. https://www.altronics.com.au/p/z6262-funduino-sensor-shield-connection-module/)
1x 3-axis compass module (e.g. https://www.jaycar.com.au/arduino-compatible-3-axis-compass-magnetometer-module/p/XC4496)
1x Ultrasonic distance sensor HC-SR04 or similar (e.g. https://www.altronics.com.au/p/z6322-ultrasonic-distance-sensor-breakout-for-arduino/)
I built a proto-board adapter to connect the 3-axis compass module to the I2C pins of the sensor expansion shield. You could just wire it directly to those pins on the motor shield if you wish.
