The Small Life is a light and welcoming home for the average Canadian family. Its unique shape and size makes it suitable as a small home in the heart of crowded downtown Toronto. Downtown Toronto, having limited square footage available allows this slim home to maximize its space, while maintaining a modern and contemporary design that speaks to all Torontonians. Small Life is made entirely of four significant, and carefully thought of materials. The exterior walls are made of toughened glass supported by steel mullions. Toughened glass is necessary to make sure that the house is strong and able to withstand natural force. The mullions are made of steel, thus providing a solid base and support for the glass around the home, making the house sturdier. Steel is quite expensive to manufacture but is an ecofriendly material with a long life-span. The long life-span of steel guarantees less issues to occur with the home. The roof is flat and made of modified bitumen. It is a peel and stick material that can be easily installed by home owners. Its light coloured mineral surface reflects heat, saves on energy bills, and is cost effective. Lastly, the entrance is made of Douglas Fir, a lightweight but sturdy natural wood. Its colour also compliments the steel mullions. This architecture allows natural light to brighten the interior atmosphere of the home during the day while being surrounded by city lights and a bright moon during the night. As a result, this two story home limits the use of artificial light, while contributing significant savings on electricity bills. In addition, the all glass exterior is cost effective in the short-term as well as long-term. Glass is inexpensive to manufacture and it is reusable, saving on manufacturing and repair costs, and also benefitting the environment. The light, reflective roof helps to reflect heat and bring down electricity and heating costs further. Overall, this environmentally and cost friendly house is accompanied by a strong and sturdy foundation that can be attributed to the toughened glass exterior, steel mullions, and Douglas Fir entrance. This perfect two story home with a modern touch is affordable for the average Canadian Family and will be enjoyable by many.
