Simple multipurpose general LED light
What?
My wife needed a light for her keyboard so she could read the sheet music. Instead of buying one I decided to design and build one of my own. Then I figured why it couldn't be more generic? With long neck it would be really useful in countless situations. As time passed the more ideas for usage popped up. The video contains only a few of them.
Usage
This thing can be used for lighting innumerable places: reading sheet music, fixing cars, searching keys in the dark, spare light during power cut, reading light and many many other places, you name it. With long adjustable neck it can bring light places where normal flashlights can't go.
Building it
Besides all the printed parts you will need:
Screws with size M3 and variable lengths between 12mm to 30mm. Tip: Use nyloc nuts where ever possible.
Red and black wires
An on/off switch
Double AAA battery box
Two AAA batteries
LED (OSM5XME1E1E)
Steps:
Print Base.stl and Lid.stl files
Print as many LightShade.stl and LightShadeLid_xxx_mm.stl files as you need. The xxx in the file name means the tolerance of the lid fasteners against the light shade. I used 0.5 mm tolerance.
Print as many BeamsWithWireLoops.stl as you think you'll need.
Cut some black (-) and red (+) wires as long as you think you'll need. And some extra ;)
Solder the wires to an LED.
Thread the wires through the LightShade.stl and BeamsWithWireLoops.stl
Snap the LightShadeLid.stl on top of LightShade.stl. If it's loose, print another one with smaller tolerance or just glue them together (I had to glue them once).
Solder the red wire to an on/off switch
Solder a new red wire to an on/off switch
Solder the new red wire and the black wire to an AAA battery box.
Glue the AAA battery box in the bottom of the base.
Attach the on/off switch to the side of the base.
(Optional) Print as many BalkCorner.stl, BarFastener.stl, Beams.stl, Hook.stl, TriBeam.stl and/or WallFastener.stl files as you like/need.
Put the batteries
Screw all the parts together in the form as you like/need.
