Cruising speed: warp 8.2 Armament: phasers (x1 phaser array) Defenses: deflector shields ======================================== Starship Background An evolution of the Type-9 shuttlecraft, the Voltaire was designed to be Starfleet's next-generation standard shuttlecraft. By the early 25th century, nearly Voltaire-type shuttles were aboard nearly every starship in the fleet. Despite their small size, the Voltaires are exceptional fast and maneuverable. The large delta-wings also make the Voltaire much more stable in atmospheric environments. Model Background This is my interpretaion of the Type-9 shuttlecraft from Star Trek Voyager, which is very likely my favorite shuttlecraft design from the whole franchise. If you haven't seen it already, I highly recommend you check out Agent-P's fantastic model of the Type-9, which is insanely detailed and nearly 100% accurate to the models and sets from Voyager. They were portrayed as small, unstable, fragile vessels—completely unreliable. So this is me imagining a 'reliable' redesign. The chief difference between this model and the Type-9 is the arrangement of the nacelles: the Voltaire has large delta-shaped wings instead of pylons, and the nacelles are placed much further apart from each other—which makes the design look more 'stable' to me. The Voltaire is also slightly larger than the Type-9. Not so large that an average human could stand up straight, but no longer so small that they'd have to hunch their backs. This also gives the secondary compartment a bit more room, sufficient (I hope) for three small seats.benches on either side for passengers. Anyway, the Voltaire is the second of my four-model series of post-TNG support craft models to be used with my larger models from here on out. Due to its smaller size, I expect I'll be using it with virtually every post-TNG starship design from now on.
