When editing 16mm motion picture film, you need a way to wind it between reels. Normally this is done with a pair of large geared cranks called "rewinds". But what about something small and portable for animation, film cleaning, handmade films, etc?
I designed this short rewind to comfortably handle 100ft daylight spools up to 400ft reels. Print 2 to make a perfect editing setup with a Moviscop and splicer.
Print Short_16mm_Rewind_allparts.stl for one complete rewind, or print the included STLs for individual components. The stand is designed to accommodate a large "A-clamp" so you can clamp it to a desk. The OpenSCAD design files are included, so you can modify it easily.
NOTES:
The only non 3D-printed parts are: M4 x 25mm bolt, washer, and nylock nut for each knob.
Not compatible with "keyed" reels that have a round hole, sorry.
Prints without supports. I used .2mm layer height.
ASSEMBLY:
It's all friction-fit, so sanding or adjustment may be required!
Drive the main shaft backwards into the flange until 30mm protrudes from flange to shaft tip.
Push the flange into the hole in the base. (I needed to sand mine to make a smooth bearing surface.)
Attach the knob to the crank using the M4 screw/washer/nut.
tap the crank onto the back of the shaft to complete the rewind.
Now clamp it to the desk and start editing!
