Spool stand for 500g and 1000g spools with width of 66mm, 45mm, 80mm.
Combination of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4732843 and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3791887
Added shorter base for 500g spools (45mm).
Added shorter base for 1000g spools (80mm).
Still has 66mm base.
Why
The original can't be printed on small printer beds due to length. The separated base plate has to be then glued together because the longer 3 unit long base is missing a notch on one side. The 1 unit long base plate can't be used to make 4 separate spool stands because it has a 3mm notch and a 6mm notch. This is very inconvenient.
The spool I use are 80mm wide (1000g) and 45mm wide (500g). They are either way too small or a little bit too wide for the original 66mm spool stands.
My remix makes it easy to print because it's a lot of small parts to print instead of a few very long parts.
Design Details
For 45mm, 66mm, and 80mm spools.
separate base for each stand for better mixing of sizes
For IKEA SAMLA 22l, might fit Sterilite 20 quart box
I shortened the 6mm notch to 3mm and rounded the corners of all side walls. Also added a shorter base for 45mm wide spools and 80mm wide spools (500g and 1000g of 1.75mm PLA from Basicfil (should not be an affiliate link) which I use)
Intended for IKEA SAMLA 22l. Might also fit Sterilite 20 quart box.
As the original, requires 4x 608 bearings per spool stand, 16x 608 in total for 4x stands.
Original parts from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4732843 might still fit if a stronger base is needed.
I was able to fit 4x 45mm stand and 1x 80mm spool stand together with Thing 2982939 into one SAMLA 22ltr box.
Print Instructions
Print laying flat. No supports needed.
Print tall and short sides in amounts as needed.
Parts neededPer spool stand:
2x tube*.stl
2x base.stl
2x Plate Round - A combination of and low plate and high plate. Or both the same.
Other, see below.
Material Needed
For 1 spool stand:
4x 608 ball bearing (used for skate boards)
For 4 spool stands:
16x 608 ball bearing
The cheapest ball bearings can be used since there is no precise tolerance needed or high load on the bearings. I got a pack of 25pcs for 8§. These are totally fine.
It doesn't matter (in this case) if the bearing are ABEC9 or ABEC10 or ABEC11. This is the manufacturing tolerance. ABEC9 is very common. ABEC11 has tighter tolerances but doesn't improve anything for this spool stand.
It doesn't matter (in this case) if the bearings are 680ZZ or 680S or 6802RS. The letters say how many and what kind of shields are on the bearings. The shields prevent dust going into the bearings. There is probably very little dust in the spool stand.
It does matter if it's 608 or 609 or 607. 607 has a different size than 608. You need 608 (8mm x 22mm x 7mm).
Assembly Instructions
Print parts in needed amount.
Insert ball bearings in tubes
Insert base into one side wall.
Put both tubes on nubs on side.
Put other side on base.
Repeat for other spool stands until finished
For my print, glue was not needed because it was a tight press fit. Though, might benefit from the extra strength from hot glue.
