This concept ship's mission is to infiltrate enemy waters and launch a precision, covert attack on land and water targets. It is the first large, manned ship to include a caterpillar, or magnetohydrodynamic, drive. This drive is powered by a nuclear reactor driving a generator. In event of a failure, the electricity generated would drive a backup pumpjet. Complement is 10 officers plus 30 enlisted sailors, and a Seahawk helicopter can be landed on a mid-ship pad. Weaponry includes two 5.1' guns with missile- like GPS-guided LRLAP shells, two 21-rocket missile launchers (holding various offensive munitions, but mainly defensive Rolling Airframe Missiles), two 21' torpedo tubes fore', and finally a Phalanx point-defense gun. Sensors include several retractable antennae, sonar paced throughout the ship beneath the waterline, a periscope, internal radar, and a dedicated defensive radar for the Phalanx and RAMs. There is also a retractable air intake. As the name suggests, this ship can sink almost all the way under the water to provide visual, radar, and thermal stealth at the expense of sonic stealth. To support its mission, the ship is built of composites (to resist electromagnetic triggers) a novel shape (anti-radar/sonar), and thermal shielding. Additionally, camouflage paint resists visual identification and spotting. #advanced_gun_system #battle #boat #camoflage #caterpillar_drive #combat #littoral #machine #magnetohydrodynamic_drive #marines #military #missile #navy #ocean #phalanx #radar #rolling_airframe_missile #semi_submersible #semisubmersible #ship #stealth #submarine #torpedo #united_states #usa #war
