SELF-SUFFICIENT MODULAR BASE FOR MARS
DESCRIPTION: Both the general conditions of Mars and the possible transport used from the Earth have been taken into account to design the base. That is the reason why the base would be built by means of independent modules. Each module can be adapted to different needs: Dormitory, kitchen, laboratory, etc. It has also been considered its assembly on planet Mars, since this must be relatively fast so as no to get exposed to radiation for a long time.
TRANSPORT TO MARS: Quite easy as it is divided into modules.
ASSEMBLY IN MARS: Due to the low gravity of Mars, the module can be elevated with a helium balloon, which the astronauts can manually move to the right position.
FIXING THE MODULE: It can be screwed to the floor of Mars putting a stilt in the middle. In case of uneven floor, it also allows to level the module.
RADIATION: Apart from the engineering to protect against radiation, all the walls and ceilings are covered with individual bags of food since organic products protect against radiation. At the same time that this food is being consumed, the bags are filled with waste and placed on the walls again to do the same function.
STRONG WINDS: The modules have an aerodynamic design so that they become an extension of the Martian ground which facilitates the passage of the wind.
ENERGY: All the module surface are covered by solar panels. Owing to the aerodynamic design, the wind that glides over the surface can be used to generate electricity by means of a turbine making each module self- sufficient.
PRINTING: three .stl. 1.-module. 2.- half-module. 3.- stilt. They must be scaled before printing.
