When you want to add a screw or bolt to an assembly you are building it is usually helpful to offer the screw/bolt to the workpiece with the screw/bolt head already mounted on the end of your screw/hex driver. This is particularlr the case for small screws/bolts such as M3.
The purpose of the things in this design is to provide a claw (or gripper) which slides onto the driver, and grips the screw/bolt on tthe end of the driver, making it dead easy to start driving the screw/bolt. Once started, remove the claw and tighten the screw/bolt down.
I recommend using a flexible filament such as rubber or nylon for building these things - they are designed to bend/warp in use, and if the filament won't warp then breakage will occur.
