Replacement handle for print scraper.
If you're like me, you probably have the same (or similar) tool for removing your prints. I got it because I needed one, and it wasn't very expensive. In fact, the tool I purchased is actually sold as an artists painting tool. The same exact tool, when sold for 3D printing, is about 2 or even 3 times the price.
After a a couple of years of using it, I applied a little much torque and broke the handle.
At first, I was like..... I have a piece of hardwood dowel, I'll cut a hunk off, drill a hole and I'll be back in business.
Then I was like.... duh! I have a 3D printer..... let's make something instead!
It's a simple design with slight depressions for your thumb on one side and fingers on the other.
I have a set of screwdrivers that are red and black on each end, so I manually made filament changes to change the colors so it would be similar to the screwdrivers.
I printed this in PETG and increased the number of perimeters and tops/bottom to increase strength.
I also used 2 processes in Simplify3D to change perimeters/floors and the infill of the handle at different heights. Most of the handle was done at 25% infill with 4 perimeters and floors. The tool end (about 35mm) I increased the infill to 85% and 6 perimeters. I did this to increase the strength on the tool end, and to give me enough material around the hole to allow for drilling and inserting the tool.
Basically, I drilled out the hole to just slightly smaller than the diameter of the tool rod, heated the tool rod up and pushed it into the hole.
I've included the SketchUp model in case you'd like to make modifications.
