I think Ryobi is missing a huge market opportunity. I have a ton of Ryobi Tools and Batteries (1000+ Wh worth!). I've made several prototypes that use Ryobi 18V batteries to charge USB ports or run a 13.8V regulated cigarette socket. I'd really like a tool that can charge my Ryobi batteries with Solar and be able to run other devices like a refrigerator or freezer at the same time.
Companies like Bluetti and Jackery make nice dedicated Solar Powerstations (https://amzn.to/31B1OXf , https://amzn.to/3b8ou4n ). They are fairly expensive and the batteries can not be replaced. They have a limited number of cycles (e.g. 500).
For people that only have an occasional need and already own Ryobi batteries this design may be a better option. My Goal is to get Ryobi to create and sell a real product ;-)
This design supports a top-of-class MPPT solar charge controller with a Bluetooth app for your phone.
I was able to use many off-the-shelf components. Not all are required depending on what you want to build:
Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/10 Solar Charge Controller 75V 10A with Bluetooth ( https://amzn.to/2EEEUFE ) $105
DC Voltage Converter DC 8V-40V to 13.8V 10A ( https://amzn.to/2EI6Rfx ) $32
BESTEK 300Watt Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter Car Adapter DC 12V to AC 110V with 4.2A Dual Smart USB Ports ( https://amzn.to/3joepDd ) $48
Cigarette Lighter Socket ( https://amzn.to/2YFZ5de )$12
36W Fast PD USB-C Car Charger with USB Quick Charge 3.0 and Type C Charger Socket ( https://amzn.to/3bb8crl ) $13
29.4V 2A Power Supply Charger ( https://amzn.to/31Dfi4V ) $21
Harbor Freight Plastic Ammo Box ( https://www.harborfreight.com/tactical-ammoutility-box-64113.html ) $9
1.2Kohm 1/4 watt resistors ( https://amzn.to/3jsD3mk )
The only part that I had to design/3D print was a charge connector to attach to the Ryobi One+ battery. It uses Ryobi 30001044 replacement terminals ( https://www.partswarehouse.com/Ryobi-Contact-Plate-Holder-Assembly-RY-300001044-p/hm-300001044.htm ) and Battery Leaf springs ( https://amzn.to/31KSCy5 )
I have tested it with two RICH SOLAR 100 Watt Flexible Monocrystalline Solar Panel ( https://amzn.to/3lvcbUo ) and with two Renogy 100W Eclipse Lightweight Suitcase units ( https://amzn.to/2EzNfdK ). Since the Ryobi One+ batteries have to be charged at 21VDC, the panels have to be connected in Series
