Update 6/5/18 I tightened the fit at the leading edge of all four barrels and replaced all four. If you have already printed some that are too loose, use a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the plastic and move the bottom edge a mm or two, to tighten the fit.
I was looking for a rubber band gun, and the original design of this one and its predecessor were appealing. As I looked at the original and the ones that had been made, a few changes came to mind, and here is the result.
I made the barrel removable and added some longer, interchangeable ones. I don't know if this makes any sense. They will allow using longer bands, but ones that exert a lot of force on the action probably won't work well for very long. The thickened part of the barrel is the top side.
I added a piece to hook a rubber band connected to the trigger.
I reworked the wheel and trigger, with the hope of eliminating most chain-fires and making it more predictable. It's more or less successful, but it still can release 2 bands at once if the rubber bands are very stiff. It would likely last longer if the wheel and trigger were printed in a harder material such as polycarbonate.
I thinned the side plates and rounded the edges of the grips and the trigger.
I added screw holes in the top plate. You can use these to squirt a bit of hot glue or CA into to make it more or less one piece. You can use sheet metal screws to make the side plate easily removable. it may show an error, but it should print OK. One of the holes doesn't penetrate due to an error in one surface that I couldn't fix.
I added the shield on both sides of the trigger to prevent the bands from falling into the mechanism and jamming. My thanks to lazydba247 for Upgraded Wheel For Rubber Gun, THING 603697, for the idea and a model which I further customized. Make sure the wheel is installed over the axle first and the smaller shield on top of that. You probably don't need to glue the two pieces together.
You can interchange the barrels, trigger/wheel, trigger rubber band tether, and side plates in the original design; none of the critical dimensions were altered.
As with any form of firearm, don't point it at anything you don't intend to shoot!
ABOUT THE ACTION
The trigger mechanism is more at home in a pendulum clock than a firearm or any facsimile thereof. Rather than the mechanism releasing the projectile when you squeeze the trigger, squeezing the trigger acts as a SET or ARM - (TICK), so that when you release the trigger, the rubber band fires (TOCK). I've found that the mechanism will still release multiple bands when using stiff bands that apply too much force to the action, or when the action becomes worn.
