This consists of a compact case and mountable hinge for the GLCD Full-Graphic display module by RepRapDiscount. The hinged mount is intended for use with the MakerFarm i3v printer consisting of a wood frame and aluminum v-rail channels. The hinge mounts to the electronics side of the i3v frame by replacing the uppermost M5x12 v-rail attachment screw with a longer M5x16 screw. An optional second mounting hole is provided for those wishing to drill another hole in the printer frame and in possession of another M5 nut plate. This mounting location on the i3v allows the use of minimal-length ribbon cables between the GLCD and the printer electronics, and allows those ribbon cables to be isolated from other printer wiring.
Note that the GLCD mount is intended to be used with the Printbus MakerFarm i3v Smoothieboard frame at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:816676. Due to physical conflicts, it is not compatible with the RAMPS electronics installed on the MakerFarm 8-inch i3v printer. Compatibility with other MakerFarm printer sizes or with other electronic suites is unknown.
The hinge consists of two pivot arms interconnected with an M4 screw, spring, and M4 locknut. Orientation ridges in the pivot arms assist the hinge in self-orienting to 0 and 90 degrees. The spring allows the hinge to rotate through the orientation ridges while also providing pressure on the ridges in holding orientation. The hinged mount allows the GLCD to rotate rearward for side viewing, storage, or for forward-facing access to the GLCD SD card reader.
The GLCD case mounts to the hinge with a single M4x40 (or longer) screw and an M4 locknut captured in the GLCD case. The single-bolt connection between the hinge and the GLCD case provides for an adjustable vertical viewing angle of the GLCD screen. Adding a thin mylar or similar shim between the hinge and the GLCD case will ensure smooth rotation of the viewing angle.
Optional spacers can be printed for use in ensuring proper spacing between the GLCD circuit boards as mounting screws are tightened.
An optional rear panel cover is provided for use with the GLCD case. While holes in the GLCD circuit boards accept up to M3 hardware, the case is intended for use with M2.5 screws to allow some flexibility in aligning screws with engagement holes at the front of the case. M2.5x12 screws with washer are recommended if no rear panel is used. M2.5x16 screws without washer are recommended if the rear panel is used.
The GLCD Mount for MakerFarm i3v is a heavily modified remix of Double Hinged 12864 Full Graphics LCD Frame (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:626307) by enif. Revisions include general fitment improvements, file structure and commenting for understandability, providing more encoder shaft exposure for knob compatibility, hinge redesign for rotation to the rear instead of downwards, mount modifications for use with MakerFarm i3v printers, added provisions for the rear cover.
