A thimble for a rope eye for low load applications.
I needed a thimble for my anchor mooring to protect the mooring rope eye from chafe from the shackle. Barnacles grow on the rope, shackles corrode, and
over a period of time can wear out the anchor line. This also has the advantage of being non-conductive for long term salt water applications.
Print in nylon for strength, or ABS for economy.
The strength is dependent on the number of layers, and the fill percentage. I used 5 layers, 30% on my first one.
The low stress part of the thimble has been hollowed out for economy. Use internal support in the print.
Set debug to true to check out hollowed out areas before printing.
I put a frame on the throat of the thimble for printing and used rafting, then used a bandsaw to remove it.
