Root 2 CNC Dust Shoe (52mm Spindle)
Greetings,
Here's a dust shoe attachment for the Root 2 CNC Machine, using a 52mm Spindle. The shoe is printed in 3 parts to minimize filament waste. The dust shoe is detachable and allows the user to remove the shoe to change the router bit. The spindle collar attachment is extendable, and one could design other attachments (laser cutter mount, etc.) that fits with the same attachment.
The vacuum collar is designed for a 16mm tube. This is the same size used on this popular and cheap wet/dry vac on amazon.
Parts Required
M2x10mm (3x)
M2 Nut (3x)
Epoxy / Superglue / Other Adhesive
Instructions
Print the spindle collar
Print the downstem (print this upside down)
Print the dust shoe
Attach the spindle collar between the existing spindle clamps on your Root 2
Secure with 2x M2 + M2 Nuts
Test fit the downstem & check for alignment with your spindle. If needed, adjust the spindle position by loosening the spindle clamps and moving the spindle up or down.
Test fit the dust shoe in the downstem. You may need to use a exacto knife to shave some material from the inside of the down stem hole for a proper fit.
Once alignment is verified, attach the dust shoe to the downstem with epoxy, superglue, or another adhesive.
Attaching / Removing
Slide the dust shoe up the length of the spindle collet
Rotate the shoe / downstem so that the connector matches with the spindle collar.
Press down to attach the dust shoe to the spindle.
Use the final M2 Bolt / Nut to secure the vacuum tube to the top of the downstem.
Cheers, Tyler
