In 107 BC, the Roman General and Council Gais Marius (157 BC to 87 BC) instituted a reorganization of the Roman military known as the Marian Reforms. One of these reforms decread that each legionary would now carry his marching gear (weapons, armor, food, supplies and tools) instead of relying on the legionary mule baggage train to carry this equipment, earning them the nickname 'Marius' mules'. Although mules were still used to carry heavy items like tents and fortification posts, this change allowed the baggage trains to be shortened, making the infantry faster and more efficient. PLEASE NOTE: This reissued diorama now utilizes a modified roman soldier based on several models by Maotri, the shield is based in part on the excellent 1st century AD shield by FullOfIt, and the roman road is courtesy of The Emperors Champion #ancient_weapons #Armor #arms #army #bag #belt #boot #bowl #caligae #cimgulum #coin_bag #Corbridge #cup #dagger #empire #furca #gladius #groin_guard #kettle #leather_bag #Legion #legionary #Legionary_armor #lorica #Lorica_Segmentata #marching_pack #military #pack_pole #pera #pila #pilum #pompeii #pompeii_gladius #pugio #road #Roman #Roman_Army #roman_empire #roman_road #Rome #sarcinae #segmented_armor #situla #soldier #spear #sword #tpole #tshaped_pack_pole #tshaped_pole #war #warrior #weapon #weighed_pila
