Updated Version with cooling duct on the rear!
This Extruder holder solves the following problems other constructions suffer from
It holds the extruder firmly in place. The acceleration of the x axis can neither cause a tilting motion of the extruder nor slipping.
It provides airflow around the stator of the stepper motor for cooling purpose. This prevents deformation (see picture).
It makes it easy to mount and unmount the extruder, even if it is already wired.
A Support for an cable loop is provided
The newly added cooling duct provides an cooling option to the construction. It can't compete with an dedicated part cooling assembly but it helps a lot on critical parts. To obtain optimal results it is useful to rotate the printed object in the slicer to make sure the airflow reaches the critical areas of your print.
Printing and Assembly
Choose the right brackets for your Extruder. There are two types of brackets provided. On for using 3mm threaded rods (witch I recommend) and one for 40mm M3 Screws. Both types are provided with different indents on one side to fit different length of stepper motors. Use the 1.5 mm indent ones next to the extruder if the flange has an thickness of 7mm. On the other side choose on witch fits your stepper.
For additional insulation use aluminum adhesive tape as shown in the pictures.
Use the mounting holes as shown in the pictures. The lower holes can be used for additional strength. Drill a hole through the carrier and either use nuts on the back or screw directly in to the plastic.
Screw in the fan bracket from the left using an 20mm screw. The Fan bracket acts also as the mounting point for the cable loop.
Insert the extruder. Bind the cables together with spiral hose (Drag chains are overestimated). Fixate the cables with an cable tie to the fan bracket.
