Somerville's housing stock doubled between 1890 and 1900. Most of the new population was served by the classic two-family or triple decker, but some white-collar urbanites chose apartment living. Architect Aaron Gould designed Union Square’s two major contributions to that typology: The Richmond, built in 1892 shown here, and the Drouet Block at the western intersection of Bow St. and Somerville Ave, built in 1898. #1892 #19th_century #Aaron_Gould #Richmond_Building #Somerville #Union_Square
