Microcenter/Inland offers PLA+ in spooless form for $2 cheaper per 1kg. The empty spool costs $6 so it takes three spools to break even - UNTIL NOW :)
Carefully cut a used Inland PLA spool in half. It doesn't have to be perfect. Shave down the cut edges so they don't have to match up.
Print this out single-wall in vase-mode. Slip this sleeve over one half, put the spooless filament on it, and press the other spool half onto it. It stays by friction.
I'm making a threaded hub to keep the sides together.
I used PrusaSlicer in vase mode and selected "1" for perimeters and do not detect thin walls. I hassled it until it showed up in the preview.
