Located overlooking the Detroit River, the futuristic Renaissance Center contains the General Motors World Headquarters and the Detroit Marriot which elevates to 221 meters (727 ft) making it the tallest building in the state of Michigan. Four smaller identical office buildings surround the towering cylinder. The Center was designed by architect John Portman & Associates and built in 1976.
