Designed by architect John Root and redesigned and finished by Charles Atwood after Root's death, both partners in Daniel Burnham's firm, the Reliance Building is one of the first skyscrapers and a prototype for modern glass skyscrapers of the 20th century. It is 202' tall with 15 floors and was built in 1895. It was extensicvely renovated in 1995 and now houses the Hotel Burnham named after the building's architect.
