Last crawled date: 5 years, 5 months ago
These are mounting trays for the ESS-One and ESS-Dual RC sound simulators for the Redcat Gen 8 Scout II with the mindset of a clean install and making the unit easily removable.
Shock Brace Mount Instructions:
These are designed to mount over the rear axle using the M3 screw holes located on the center rear brace between the shock towers.
Pros: Weight centered Left/Right
Cons: Center of gravity slightly higher
Parts Needed:
ESS-One/ESS-Dual Shock Tower Mount
M3 countersunk screws x 4
Battery Strap(s) and/or zip ties
Installation:
1.) Install the mount with the long side facing inwards towards the middle of the chassis so it doesn't interfere with the Gen 8 body shell bracing in the rear (this also helps to keep the weight forward.)
2.) Secure to the rear center brace with (4) M3 screws of sufficient length using the holes already provided in the brace.
3.) Attach ESS unit to the mounting tray.
Securing the sound unit:
The Ess-One has can be attached with a single battery strap/zip tie (should not cover the speaker) and the ESS-Dual has room for two battery straps/zip ties, or you can mount with double sided sticky tape and/or both.
Chassis Side Mount Instructions:
These are designed to mount on either the Left (driver) or Right (passenger) side chassis on either side of the battery tray. Attachment is via the existing screw holes for the side skid plates. These mounts were designed for those wanting a lower center of gravity vs. the rear brace mount.
Pros: Lower center of gravity
Cons: Uneven left/right balance, requires shock adjustment and/or relocating ESC/receiver box to same side to even out the weight.
Parts Needed:
ESS-One/ESS-Dual Left/Right Side Mount
ESS Side Mount Spacer (1 pc)
M3 countersunk screws x 6
Battery Strap(s) and/or zip ties
Double sided sticky tape (optional)
Installation:
1.) Take (2) M3 countersunk screws of sufficient length and attach the side mount spacer to the bottom of the mount using the two holes located opposite of the four holes on the mount. Ensure the spacer has a snug fit to the mount. Alternatively the spacer can be installed with double sided sticky tape instead.
2.) Uninstall the side skid plate.
3.) Feed (4) M3 countersunk screws of sufficient length first through the mount then through the holes in the side skid plate. Secure the mount to the chassis by reusing the existing screw holes and sandwiching the side skid plate between the mount and the chassis deck. Be sure to orient the mount with the spacer on the bottom being on the side closest to the battery.
4.) Attach ESS unit to the mount.
Securing the sound unit:

Ways to re-balance left/right weight differences if using side mount:
Due to the weight of the ESS sound unit you will notice slight body roll to the left/right side if installed with the side mount. One way to mitigate the weight imbalance would be to adjust the shock height. Alternatively you can relocate the ESC/receiver box to the same side and leave the ESS unit on the opposite side to gain better balance. When I fitted the ESS-Dual to the left side next to the receiver box I was able to restore balance by moving the shock on the sagging side down 1 notch. This raised the ride height back to near perfect balance. When measured the difference in balance was within .5mm.
