I mounted a raspberry pi 4 to the side of my laptop and I use it for embedded development on a chromebook.
With raspberry pi 4's usb gadget mode (https://gist.github.com/ianfinch/08288379b3575f360b64dee62a9f453f) you can have a pi4 connect with one usb cable for power and expose itself as a usb ethernet device to the host computer. With that you can ssh or forward x11 over ssh to get an extended environment.
The usecase is somewhat specific but maybe others will find this helpful.
Your laptop screen is most likely a different thickness than mine (lenovo c630) so feel free to edit it here: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/3aab536b4900ea4e5758ab83/w/b5b430335096408b5c22d452/e/4e2e0c091867632e3a8332a9
I also leave an extra 1.5mm of thickness on each side for some neoprene tape to make it grip better and stop it from marking the laptop: https://amzn.com/B00EE9LKRA
