This adapter enables you to replace the rather noisy 35mm extruder cooling fans with 40mm fans. Noctua fans are ideal to use due to their very quiet operation. This adapter reuses the existing exhaust duct. Due to the need to clear the axis bars there is a groove in the top of each design. Therefore the adapters are handed, for left and right hand use (as you look at the front of the machine).
To print, download either the left, right or both model file. Print with the larger face downwards to reduce the amount of support material required.
To fit, remove the existing side fans by undoing the 2 upper bolts. Then unplug the existing fan, remove the cables and prepare the new parts. Offer the adapter up to the existing exhaust duct and using the inner 2 holes thread 2 x M3 16-18mm bolts (countersunk head is best) through the adapter and exhaust duct. Then bolt to the existing extruder holes, ensuring you use the very front hole and the rear one that matches the 35mm spacing.
Next, take 4 x M3 12-14mm bolts and bolt the new 40mm fan to the outside of the adapter, ensuring the fan label is nearest the extruder (ie you should not be able to see the centre fan label when attached). Then simply attach using the outer/corner 4 holes. The M3 bolts will create their own thread in the plastic so there is no requirement tio use nuts or any other hardware.
Then simply run the new fan wiring up through the extruder housing, as the original, and connect the 2 pin connectors back to the correct ports. Ensure the red cable is nearest the back of the extruder when fitting.
These adapters ensure the lower edge of the new 40mm fans is at the same height as the original 35mm fans so there is no issues during printing.
Enjoy a little more peace and quiet :)
