Radial Arm Saw Exhaust Adapter by charlieworton

Most older Sears Craftsman radial arm saws had a rubber 90 degree sawdust exhaust port on the front of the saw, which directed sawdust to the left of the operator. This rubber exhaust port was frequently damaged or lost, which resulted in sawdust being shot directly into the chest and face of the operator. This adapter does two things. First, it directs the sawdust stream through a 180 degree path, so that the sawdust is directed away from the operator. Secondly, it provides a friction coupling to most standard craftsman shop vacuums, so that sawdust generated during saw usage is automatically vacuumed up. This makes cleanup easier, and results in less airborne sawdust (airborne sawdust poses a respiratory risk).
Using this adapter requires a small modification to the saw exhaust port, which I achieved using a dremel tool and a diamond cutting bit (see photograph). Also, because the casting process results in small differences in sizes, it may be necessary to scale the model up or down slightly in order to achieve a perfect fit. I recommend that you create a quick, low res model first, to verify sizing. I built my model using white ABS, on a heated bed using a 5mm skirt.
Radial arm saws are not as common as they once were, but the need to collect sawdust is true for all woodworking tools. This adapter can be easily modified to fit a variety of tools, and I hope it proves useful.
