This is just a simple quick change spool system. It uses a standard 8mm threaded rod and M8 nuts like the ones that come in the A8 kit. The two bushings (52mm & 32mm) fit most all standard spools between the two of them. The plates trap your M8 nuts when tightened so that the spool is held securely in place but can spin very freely eliminating strain on your feeder for pulling on the spool. It also solves the clearance problem you have just using the bare threaded rod with most spool holders.
You can adjust how tight the outer nuts are on your mount to control drag on your spool to keep it from unraveling when your printing at high speeds where fast moves might pull on it. To change out spools just unscrew the plates far enough to clear the nut and the plate pulls right off letting you change the spool in just seconds.
I used this spool holder with it: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2449265 for mine. Made out of ABS its extremely strong and mounts very securely to the frame. It would also work just fine make out of other materials as well. I definitely recommend this holder, its an excellent design if your looking for a good holder to go with this for the AM8.
