I was frustrated with having to use a hex wrench to remove my spools from the bearing based holder I was using. This one uses super magnets to join the two sides, and springs to keep tension on the spool. It's pretty simple, and self guides as you push the two sides together. It's fully functional as it is now.
Here is a video of it in action: https://youtu.be/HKhCh__cVko
Updates:
I added a shorter shaft to take advantage of the shorter spring in the 4 pack from Home Depot.(Main-short.stl)
I added a spot to press in the nut, and recess the M3 screw into the tensioners. Otherwise the bolt wouldn't be long enough.
I added a press in cover to be installed after the bearing is pressed in. I found that once the PLA gets too warm the bearing can loosen, This seems to keep everything together. I'll see if I can put up an assembly diagram tomorrow.
I uploaded an experimental wall mount that I'm in the process of printing now based on feedback from FMA. Preliminary testing suggests that the shorter arm can hold the spool by itself. I'll test it out tomorrow night and report back.
The experimental spindle holder seems to work OK. If you decide to print it out let me know any issue you have. (I'll be making a version for the M2 soon)
Update the links to the springs.
