The original paper printable version of the Quark Workbench was created by Eric Gettrust. He created the 2D activity for his students in the summer of 2008 after a summer appointment as a QuarkNet lead teacher in the University of Wisconsin physics department. He published the idea in The Physics Teacher during the spring of 2010: https://aapt.scitation.org/doi/10.1119/1.3393062
Eric Gettrust, “The Quark Puzzle: A Novel Approach to Visualising the Color Symmetries of Quarks,” Phys. Teach. 48, 312-315 (2010).
Under the suggestion of Julia Woithe, Lachlan McGinness created the 3D printable
cookie cutter version of this puzzle during his appointment as Teacher in residence in 2018.
