The Ordnance QF (quick firing) 13-pounder entered service with the Royal Horse Artillery in 1904, designed for mobile warfare as a response to experiences learned in the Boer War. During WW1 Vickers Ltd produced the Mk V, a pedestal-mounted adaptation for naval use. Many were fitted to Motor Launches or used to equip merchant ships. This example was once the stern gun on the armed merchantman SS Hornsund, lost off Scarborough to a torpedo in 1917 as the plaque states. It now stands guard on the end of Scarborough’s East Pier.

220 images taken with a polarising filter in March 2020, with overcast conditions. Processed primarily in Metashape. Great object to model, lots of detail and unusual shapes.
