Pushmataha Building No. 1 known at the Administration Building was built in 1920 with a construction cost of $8 500. It has been internally rebuilt several times; the latest renovation was in 1974. Pushmataha Choctaw was born in Novubee County Mississippi in approximately 1765. The name means the eagle%93%94. He was chosen to the envied position of chief of the Choctaws in 1805. He signed the Treaty of Mt. Dexter which provided for cession of a large tract of land in Alabama and Mississippi. He was one of the main leaders in persuading the Choctaw Nation to join the United States. The great Indian chief died in Washington D.C. on December 24 1824. He is buried in Arlington Cemetery.
