This is a Punnett Square. The files are broken up to do dual extrusion for different text colors. You can also make this into a game, there are blank square that you can move the letters for kinetic learning.
3D Punnett Squares of Monohybrid Cross (second cross of heterozygotes of 2 hybrid parents):
Students will be able to understand the fundamentals of Mendel’s laws of genetics by examining a simple monohybrid cross, only looking at one trait, to fully grasp the genetic principles underlying all life forms.
1.) Illustrates Mendel’s first law of genetics, the Law of Segregation by looking one trait of two parent organisms’ gene of interest: During gamete production, members of each gene pair separate so each gamete contains one member of a pair. Discrete units, or genes, occur in pairs because chromosomes occur in pairs.
2.) Shows the Second Law of Independent Assortment: The distribution of one pair of alleles into gametes does not influence the distribution of another pairs from parents to offspring and the genes controlling different traits are inherited independently of one another.”
3.) Demonstrates Third Law of Dominance, dominant alleles (denoted with a capital letter, “A”) mask recessive alleles (denoted with a lower case letter,”a”)
• Dominant traits are governed by an allele that can be expressed in the presence of another allele, (eg “A” in the model)
• Dominant alleles prevent the expression of recessive alleles in heterozygotes. (phenotypically, Aa is called dominant, but genotypically is a heterozygote)
• Recessive traits are not expressed in heterozygotes (for example, “Aa" in the model). For a recessive allele to be expressed, there must be two copies of the allele (eg “aa" in the model)
• We see this in the phenotypic ratio of 3:1 (“AA” and “Aa” have the dominant allele expressed, and “aa” is homozygous recessive and does not have dominant allele expressed)
