This Thing listing is a conversion of my original OctoPi Rig, though it has been modified exclusively to work with the Printrbot Simple Metal!
This rig is designed to use the Raspberry Pi 3 and a Logitech C170 webcam. You will need these in order to build this OctoPi Rig, along with a MicroSD card of at least 4GB, and can freely download the software image you will need to use from the Octoprint website. I highly recommend watching the video tutorial on their site while following the installation instructions provided there as well.
The rig includes a case designed for the Raspberry Pi 3, a GoPro style mount for the Logitech webcam, and GoPro style corner mounts for the Printrbot Simple Metal's print bed. There are 2 versions of the corner mount: One is made to hold the camera mount so it faces the print bed at a 45 degree angle relative to the print bed, while the second version will hold the camera mount at a 30 degree angle relative to the print bed.
You must decide on which version of the camera mount to use based on the size of your printer's print bed size. Stock beds are usually more square shaped which entails using the 45 degree camera mount to position the Logitech c170 Webcam at the right angle to capture the whole print bed in frame. Upgrade print bed kits, like a heated bed upgrade kit for example, feature a print bed with a more rectangular shape to their design. For these print beds, the 30 degree camera mount will be more adequate, as the angle for the Logitech Webcam is sharper, allowing it to capture the extended print bed within frame!
Happy Printing & Enjoy :-)
