This "block" is designed to hold a 5/16" square nut in place inside 3"x2" X-Base tubing used for a PrintNC Build. The nuts inside the Y-Base tubing to be used to secure the Wast Board in place with 5/16" bolts.
Two holes beside the nut holding hole are for two Kreg 1 1/2" coarse wood screws - to be used to secure the X-Base tubes to the 1 1/2" plywood base I have underneath my PrintNC. I drilled the holes in the top of the tube with a 3/8" bit so the screws can be inserted when required and not ahead of time. Hole gives lots of room for a driver for the screws.
One hole on each short side of the tubing to accommodate small screws to hold the Nut Holding Blocks in place. I used #6 x 3/8" round head stainless steel sheet metal screws. #8 would be a bit better, but did not have any this length.
Drill guide will need the holes drilled out with a 1/8" drill bit. I used a transfer punch for the initial punch, then re-punched with a center punch once the drill guide was removed.
Each X-Base tube received three of these - one in the center of the tubing, and one centered four inches from each tubing end.
5/16 bolts shown in the picture are for reference. Will use 5/16" button head socket screw head bolts for the waste board.
Have included .step files and the Solid Works files so the parts can be modified as required for different tubing sizes or different nuts. Included a notch for the seam inside the tubing. This could be eliminated and a slot made with the corner of a flat file - what I ended up doing for two of my tubes!
Large round hole in the block is to allow the use of 1/2" PVC Conduit inside the X-Base tubing if required for wiring.
