This is a remix of a remix! Using the OpenSCAD code from the Big Nippled Parametric Gyro Cube, I updated the connections. I originally designed this to print as "Print in Place"-- so all the cubes print where they need to be and there is no assembly required after the fact (other than snapping off bottom supports).
However, this model can also be printed with all the spheres flat and you can snap each sphere in place after the fact.
These spheres are sized just right that you can run each sphere as a separate print and embed them into each other (by pausing the next print). Which means-- multiple colors even if you have single extruder (like me!)
The connections are more robust and I focused on 45 degree angles to help with consistency in printing. I have printed both versions of the model on two different machines (MakerGear M2 and the Wanhao Duplicator i3) and have experimented with three different nozzle sizes (0.35, 0.4 and 0.5). They have been spinning well and surviving stress tests by my 3 year old and 5 year old. Hopefully it will work well on your machine(s) as well!
