The Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge was opened in 1889 to carry two railraod tracks over Hudson River in Poughkeepsie New York. The deck was later converted to a sigle track for heavier steam locomotives. The cantilever bridge is constructed of steel and the deck is covered with wooden planks. It is designed by Charles Macdonald and A.B. Paine and was constructed by Union Bridge Company. The bridge was partially burned in 1974. In 1998, an organization called Walkway Over the Hudson acquired the bridge to convert it to pedestrian use. The restored bridge is to be opened for public in 2009. #High_Bridge #Hudson_River_Crossings
